For Supernatural’s season thirteen mid-season premiere episode is titled “Wayward Sisters.” Because Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) are in the Bad Place, other characters from the show are going to need to save them. This characters that will be focused on are: Claire Novak (Kathryn Love Newton), Jody (Kim Rhodes), Alex (Kathleen Ramdeen), Kaia (Yadira Guevara-Prip), Donna (Briana Buckmaster) and Patience (Clark Backo).
Claire Novak is the daughter of the vessel that the angel Castiel (Misha Collins) took over in the fourth season. She also becomes a solo hunter. Alex was saved by Sam and Dean from a vampire nest. Both of these girls have the same adoptive mother, Jody. Jody is a sheriff of a small town and a trusted friend of the Winchesters. Unlike Claire she stays with Jody in her attempt to have a normal life. Patience is a psychic that Sam and Dean saved earlier in season thirteen. She goes to Jody because of a vision that she had.
Kaia is a dreamcatcher. She is the one that accidentally sent Sam and Dean to what she calls the Bad Place. Claire and Alex search for her because she is the key to getting Sam and Dean back. Donna is also a police officer and Jody has worked with in the past. Jody calls her to round out the team.

Now, this extended trailer is more like a narrative introduction for Claire Novak. However, it does help give viewers a closer look on what (at least the mid-season premiere episode) is going to look like. She says, “Sam and Dean, they saved me. But now, they’re missing. My name is Claire Novak. It’s time for me to come home. Now, I’m going to save them.” Sam and Dean are usually the ones that do the saving (even when it comes to saving each other); however, this time they are the ones that need someone else to save them.
This episode is also going to be the pilot for a spinoff of Supernatural. It will be called Wayward Sisters. The show’s official description is, “Centered on the character of Sheriff Jody Mills and a group of troubled young women — all orphaned by supernatural tragedy — these ‘wayward sisters’ emerge as a formidable force against the supernatural, under Mills’s training and protection.”
EW also received an exclusive trailer for the show. The trailer shows Claire back at home (with Jody and Alex). Immediately, there is noticeable tension in the room. Once Patience enters the scene that tension only builds. Before they can save Sam and Dean, the girls have to come together.
Supernatural co-showrunner Andrew Dabb and Robert Berens are the ones that wrote the script. Them, as well as, co-showrunner Robert Singer and Phil Sgriccia are executive producing the show.
The backdoor pilot for Wayward Sisters and the mid-season premiere of Supernatural airs Thursday, January 18 on The CW.
