‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ Season Five Undergoes Showrunner Change As U.S. Renewal Remains Uncertain

Sullivan’s Crossing is undergoing a major creative change ahead of its fifth season. According to ScreenRant, series creator Roma Roth (Supercollider, Deadly Secrets by the Lake, Virgin River) will step down as showrunner and head writer, with Floyd Kane (Diggstown, That’s So Weird!, Orah) taking over both roles. Roth will remain involved with the series as an executive producer.

Based on Robyn Carr’s (Shelter Mountain, What We Find, Virgin River) novel series, Sullivan’s Crossing stars Morgan Kohan (Transplant, Batwoman, When Hope Calls) as neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan. After facing legal trouble, Maggie returns to her hometown in Nova Scotia, where she reconnects with her estranged father, Harry “Sully” Sullivan, and develops a relationship with California “Cal” Jones.

The series also stars Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill, A Cinderella Story, Freaky Friday) as Cal, Tom Jackson (Cold Pursuit, Cardinal, North of 60), Andrea Menard (Blackstone, The Velvet Devil, Rabbit Fall), Lindura (Ghosts, Dangerous Rumors, Rodeo Christmas Romance), Amalia Williamson (Northern Rescue, Letterkenny, You’re Killing Me), and Reid Price (From, The Sinner, King & Pawn). Kohan and Murray are expected to reprise their roles for the upcoming season, which is scheduled to begin filming in Nova Scotia later this summer.

While Canadian network CTV has renewed the romantic drama for a fifth season, The CW has not yet announced whether it will continue airing the series in the United States. Sullivan’s Crossing has aired on the network since its first season.

Scott Patterson (Saw V, Gilmore Girls, Little Big League), who portrayed Sully, departed the series following season three. Although Roth reportedly approached Patterson about returning for season five, the actor previously cited creative differences when discussing his decision not to continue with the series.

Kane is best known for creating the Canadian legal drama Diggstown, which ran for four seasons. His additional credits include the television movie Recipe for Romance, the thriller series The Ridge, and the documentary miniseries Sounds Black

Despite uncertainty surrounding its future on The CW, Sullivan’s Crossing has continued to perform strongly with streaming audiences. Season four arrived on Netflix in the United States on June 30 and quickly entered the platform’s most-watched television rankings in the country and globally.

Roth will continue serving as an executive producer on Sullivan’s Crossing. She is also developing Thunder Point, another television adaptation based on Carr’s novels, as a 10-episode series.

Sullivan’s Crossing seasons one through four are currently streaming on Netflix. A U.S. release plan for season five has not yet been announced.
