‘Suburgatory’ to lose two regulars Rex Lee and Alan Tudyk

The ABC comedy series Suburgatory has recently been renewed for another season, however Rex Lee and Alan Tudyk will not be returning. It is possible the series regulars may return for guest appearances in the future, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Suburgatory has featured Tudyk as main character George’s best friend since the beginning of the series. Lee appeared as the high school counselor of main character Tessa. He was originally meant to be a guest star but was brought on as a regular after his work on the series pilot, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter.

Deadline reported the renewal of Suburgatory was given with “a reduction in the license fee, which is leading to budget cuts and some tough choices… There may be further trims, with other regulars potentially being cut or reduced to recurring.”

Regulars that will be returning include Jeremy Sisto, Jane Levy, Cheryl Hines, Carly Chaikin, Ana Gasteyer and Allie Grant.

Actress Malin Akerman, who plays the role of Tessa’s mother, will be a part of Trophy Wife, a new series ABC has picked up. Based on her availability she may or may not be written into the returning season of Suburgatory, according to the Huffington Post.

The Huffington Post also reported, “The show will likely refocus on Tessa’s relationship with her father, George, a dynamic that [series creator] Kapnek described as “the heart of this show.”
