Stranger Things fans rejoice: Netflix has decided to award its hit sci-fi series a third season, Screen Rant reports. Despite the fact that season 2 has yet to premiere, the streaming service has decided to move the series along steadily and green light a third season.
There’s no doubt Netflix anticipates that the show’s already enormous popularity will continue to grow with Stranger Things’ second season. But this decision to push forward with more episodes ahead of the upcoming season’s release indicates that Netflix is confident with the new material, meaning fans can no doubt expect another high-quality, thrilling ride with season 2.
In an interview with Vulture, the Duffer Brothers, the creative minds behind Stranger Things, said they wanted to push the envelope with their second season. When writing, they imagined season 2 as movie sequel, in that “number 2 is always a little bit bigger.” The first trailer for Stranger Things season 2 was released earlier this summer during the San Diego Comic-Con, to great fan celebration.
The brothers not only confirmed that Netflix has gone ahead with a season 3, but that they hope to do a fourth as well. Unfortunately, the Duffer Brothers anticipate that the fourth season will be the end for Stranger Things. Ross Duffer said, “We’re thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out,” with brother Matt going on to joke that, “I don’t know if we can justify something bad happening to [the kids] once a year.”
Certainly, quality is better than sheer quantity, and if Stranger Things continues to up the ante with each season, it will no doubt go down as one of the strongest television series created.
Stranger Things season 2 will return to Netflix on October 27.
