‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Releases New Footage in Teaser, Will Return in 2022

Something wicked this way comes. Netflix has offered some new, fleeting glimpses at Stranger Things season four, in addition to announcing it will be arriving in 2022, via The Hollywood Reporter

The Stranger Things 4 sneak peak only lasts thirty seconds, and it’s intercut with familiar shots of previous seasons in addition to showing some new footage from the upcoming installment. The teaser is set to debut tonight nationally on NBC during the Olympics coverage, and though there has finally been some news regarding the beloved series, 2022 is still a long ways away.

All the way back in the summer of 2019, Stranger Things season three debuted, leaving fans shell shocked as the finale had wild and heartbreaking twists. By the time the fourth season arrives, four years will have gone by, but the series is hoping that absence will make the heart grow fonder. The delay in production and release has been caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and just like many other shows during the past year and half, it was hard to get the ground safely running in order to start shooting again. Season four is currently still in production, having resumed filming in 2020.

The new footage released on Friday only last moments, but its clear things are going to be very different as we return to Hawkins and beyond. Former tomboy Mad Max is now sporting a high pony and cheerleading pom-poms as she leads Hawkins in cheerleading. Eleven has let her hair grow long, though it looks like some things will always remain the same as she appears to be in danger while being grabbed by two mysterious men.

Millie Bobbie Brown (Godzilla vs. Kong) is returning as Eleven, in addition to Sadie Sink (Fear Street: 1978) as Max, Finn Wolfhard (It) as Mike, Gaten Matarazzo (The Blacklist) as Dustin, Noah Schnapp (Bridge of Spies) as Will, Caleb McLaughlin (Concrete Cowboy) as Lucas, Joe Kerry (Spree) as Steve Harrington, Maya Hawke (Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood) as Robin BuckleyDavid Harbour (No Sudden Move) as Jim Hopper, and Winona Ryder (Heathers), as Joyce Byers.

All cast members, including Brown and Wolfhard, shared the teaser on Instagram, uniformly writing: “uʍop ǝpᴉsdn ǝɥʇ uᴉ llɐ,ʎ ǝǝs. Stranger Things returns in 2022.”
