Stranger Things’ First Shadow: A Glimpse into Vecna’s Past

A year after the fourth season of Stranger Things, the fans are left with more questions in mind surrounding the upcoming events that will occur in Hopkins. One of the biggest mysteries is the full origins behind Vecna, the season’s main antagonist. According to IGN, a new featurette released by Netflix shows a glimpse into the prequel play, The First Shadow, surrounding Henry Creel’s journey. Stranger Things has become one the most beloved TV series due to its multi-genre storytelling and the 80’s nostalgia. The First Shadow will take in Hawkins, Indiana in 1959 and feature younger versions of fan-favorite characters like Joyce, Hopper, and Bob. Watch the featurette below.

The prequel will definitely give us an explanation of Henry Kreel’s, portrayed by Jamie Campbell Bower (The Mortal Instruments), journey from his time in the rainbow room, to when he turned into Vecna.  We can expect to see Henry’s first interaction with Martin Brenner, and how he arrived at the facility. According to IGN, “The main thrust of the story is Patty and her little budding romance with Henry,” says Kate Tefry, a staff writer on Stranger Things who also wrote The First Shadow. Patty, a new character in the canon, is the sister of Bob, Joyce’s love interest from season two. Producer Sonia Friedman adds that it’s “also the origin story of how Henry Creel became Number One.”

Overall, Stranger Things: The First Shadow is a must-see for any fan of the series, as it promises to reveal new and exciting insights into the origins of Hawkins’ darkest secret. The play is sure to delve more into the creation of the Upside-Down and the creature that calls it home. According to IGNStranger Things: The First Shadow debuts in London’s Phoenix Theater on Nov. 17. And it might be the only Stranger Things we get for while, as the fifth and final season remains on hold amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
