2016 may be considered a bad year for a lot of people, but for Sterling K. Brown, one of the stars on the wildly popular FX miniseries American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson and the equally popular NBC drama series This Is Us, 2016 hasn’t been all that bad.
On Monday, Brown was nominated for Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Limited Series, Television Film for his portrayal of Christopher Darden in The People vs. O.J. Simpson. And, two days later, Brown was nominated for two Screen Actors Guild Awards, one for his portrayal of Darden and the other for his portrayal of Randall Pearson on This Is Us.
Following the announcement of the news, Brown took to Twitter and posted a video of him talking about being recognized by his fellow actors, which was picked up by TVLine.
“Thank you, SAG-AFTRA, for recognizing my work twice in categories that aren’t supporting and lead, but just actors,” Brown said at the beginning of the video.
“I love what I do so much, and to be recognized by my peers in this way is very difficult for me to process right now, but also very, very humbling and very, very cool,” he continued, visibly tearing up as he talked.

Some of Brown’s cast members also took to Twitter to congratulate him on the nominations.
Brown chose two very successful shows to work on this year and many have been taking notice. For his work on The People vs. O.J. Simpson, he won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series and won Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series/Movie at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards on Sunday. He’s also up for a Golden Globe Award when the ceremony airs on Sunday, Jan. 8 on NBC, and a SAG Award when the ceremony airs on Sunday, Jan. 29 on TBS and TNT.
For This Is Us, he’s up for a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series. Overall, the show has started gaining traction for nominations this past week, as This Is Us became the first NBC drama in 10 years to be nominated for Best Television Series – Drama at the Golden Globes (Heroes, which starred Milo Ventimiglia, who also stars on This Is Us, was the last NBC drama to be nominated).
The show continues to be ratings oddity, as the fall finale episode, which aired on Dec. 6, matched its series premiere rating (2.8 rating in the key 18 to 49 demographic) and was watched by 10.93 million people, according to TV by the Numbers. This is considerably rare for a broadcast TV show as more and more viewers tend to watch shows on the cable networks.
