The President of the United States will deliver his fifth State of the Union Address on Tuesday, January 28 at 9pm ET.

WhiteHouse.gov/SOTU has been posting information about the speech and different ways citizens can interact with the president all week long. There will be additional ways to be part of the State of the Union this year, including a new way to watch the speech, sharing exclusive graphics on social media and a discussion on President Obama’s remarks immediately following the address.

There will be an enhanced live stream of the address on WhiteHouse.gov/SOTU. The live stream will include graphics, data and charts explaining policies and issues. You may also watch live from Facebook, YouTube, Google+ and mobile apps.

The State of the Union address is a tradition that dates back to the Founding Fathers.

“The State of the Union is not just a conversation with Congress but a conversation with you the American people,” Denis McDonough, White House Chief of Staff said in a video posted on WhiteHouse.gov/SOTU.  “It is a unique opportunity for the president to report on what we have achieved together in the past year and to provide his leadership and vision for the direction our country should take in the next. It is an important moment when the policy that influences the fabric of the American experiment is shaped.”

President Obama took part in the first-ever Google+ virtual road trip discussing issues and policies laid out in his speech. Citizens were able to submit questions to the President. Throughout the week, the President’s speechwriter Cody Kennan, Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor to the President and Director of the Domestic Policy Council Cecilia Muñoz handled the White House Instagram giving viewers behind-the-scenes look into making the speech. President Obama’s Chief Official Photographer Pete Souza also gave a behind-the-secenes look into the State of the Union speech preparation.

The State of the Union will air live on January 28 at 9pm ET. It will air on over 30 TV channels, websites, mobile apps, social media, and radio.
