‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ Sixth & Final Season To Stream On Netflix

The sixth and final season of the series will premiere on Netflix on March 7.

The 13-episode season of the canceled Cartoon Network Star Wars: The Clone Wars series will premiere on Netflix. The online streamer will make available several director’s cut episodes that did not air and also the first five seasons.

Ted Sarandos, the Netflix chief content officer said: “Stars Wars is one of the most iconic franchises of all time and this series joins a long line of Disney content that Netflix members are and will continue to enjoy for years to come.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sarandos also said: “The Clone Wars marks an important moment as Netflix welcomes more and more first-run content from The Walt Disney Company and its subsidiaries.”

Titled The Lost Missions, the season will reveal “some of the deepest mysteries of the conflict between the light and the dark sides of the Force leading to a series finale,” as noted by Deadline. An intrepid clone trooper discovers a shocking secret, Anakin Skywalker’s closest relationship is tested to its limits and Master Yoda discovers something that could change the balance of power in the galaxy while investigating the disappearance of a Jedi.

This is the first time any Star Wars content has been streamed on Netflix. The deal that Disney and Netflix made a year ago represents the first time a major movie studio had chose a streaming vs pay cable. Recently, the companies also made a pact to bring to the platform several original series based on Marvel characters by 2015. Also, Netflix will exclusively stream Disney titles beginning in 2016.

Lucasfilm announced cancellation of Star Wars on Cartoon Network in March, after the fifth season. A new Star Wars animated movie is in the works for Disney XD titled Star Wars Rebels.

The Clone Wars takes place during the same period as the Star Wars films Attack of the Clones and Attack of the Sith. Recently, Netflix revived the cult comedy Arrested Development, another cancelled series. The streamer also acquired BoJack Horseman produced by Michael Eisner and which will be launched this year.
