Disney has greenlit a second season for Star Wars: The Bad Batch, according to Variety. The new season is expected to have a 2022 release.
The Clone Wars spin-off premiered the first part of a two-part finale today at midnight Pacific. The series first premiered on May 4th, a.k.a. “Star Wars Day”, and the first season will conclude its 16-episode season next week.
Disney also confirmed via Twitter that the animated series will return for a second season.
The Bad Batch follows the rogue Clones known as the Bad Batch as they navigate through the rapidly changing galaxy following the end of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Each member of the Bad Batch carries a unique skill set that makes them effective soldiers and a formidable crew.
“The entire Lucasfilm Animation team and I would like to thank Disney Plus and our fans for the opportunity to continue telling the story of the Bad Batch,” executive producer Dave Feloni (The Mandalorian) told Variety when commenting on the news of a second season.
“Fans have enthusiastically embraced the action and drama of ‘Star Wars: The Bad Batch,’ and we are excited to see the Star Wars animated universe continue to expand on Disney Plus,” Disney+ and ESPN+ President Michael Paull told Variety. “As the dedicated streaming home for the Star Wars franchise, we can’t wait for the second season of this fan-favorite animated series.”
Feloni is backed by Athena Portillo (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Brad Rau (Star Wars: Rebels), Jennifer Corbett (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), and Carrie Beck (The Mandalorian) as executive producers for The Bad Batch with Josh Rimes (Star Wars: Resistance) and Alex Spotswood (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) as producers on the series. Rau also serves as supervising director, and Corbett is the head writer of the show.
The Bad Batch will conclude season one on August 12 and will return for season two in 2022.
