Plenty of exciting Star Wars-related news was announced at Star Wars Celebration over the weekend, but there was some bittersweet news for Star Wars Rebels fans.
During the show’s panel it was announced that the upcoming season 4 will be its last, Variety reports. The Disney XD series, popular with fans of all ages, told tales of the Rebellion before the events of A New Hope. Star Wars Rebels features a voice cast that includes Freddie Prinze Jr., Taylor Gray, Vanessa Marshall and Sabine Wren.
“I firmly believe that each generation needs to have their own piece of Star Wars,” said executive producer Dave Filoni. “And this show, for a lot of kids growing up with it, is as much a piece of Star Wars as any of the movies.”
Though it is definitely a bummer to see Star Wars Rebels come to an end, the fourth and final season promises to be quite the blowout. Season 4’s fifteen episodes will fill the timeline between Rogue One and A New Hope, with Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera making an appearance. Filoni noted that this last season will have a “Rogue One aesthetic” and will lean into that darker tone.
“Star Wars Rebels will be the complete journey that it was meant to be from the very beginning,” said Filoni. “We all felt that the time was right and that the characters were at a point where their story, and their destinies, should finally be revealed. We deeply appreciate all our fans who have journeyed with the Ghost crew, and I promise season four will be like no other.”
