‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 2: Tig Notaro Joins Cast

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery. Comedian Tig Notaro will join Star Trek: Discovery for Season 2. According to Variety today, the actress will guest star in the CBS series, playing Chief Engineer Denise Reno of the U.S.S. Hiawatha. However, it’s unknown for how many episodes Notaro will join the show.

As noted by Variety, this marks the first new TV show for Notaro following the cancellation of her Amazon show One Mississippi, after two seasons. The streaming site canceled One Mississippi alongside fellow originals I Love Dick, starring Kevin Bacon and Jean-Claude Van Johnson, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, with an “Amazon Insider” at the time telling Deadline that Amazon was moving “towards bigger, wider-audience series.”

Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 doesn’t have a premiere date yet.

However, Variety noted executive producer Alex Kurtzman revealed in February that Season 2 would dive deeper into the relationship between Discovery Commander Michael Burnham (played by Sonequa Martin-Green) and Spock, who were revealed to have grown up together during Season 1.

In addition, Kurtzman said while Season 2 would also include Enterprise, the focus would remain on the Discovery crew.

“The show is called ‘Discovery’; it’s not ‘Enterprise,’” Kurtzman said, according to Variety. “So yes, the Enterprise will play a part of Season 2, but it will absolutely not overshadow Discovery. And I think with Enterprise’s arrival in the finale we recognize that the audience has a lot of questions about our synchronicity with the original series, which really means or synchronicity with canon.”

Earlier this week the show announced the addition of Anson Mount (Inhumans) as Captain Christopher Pike of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Mount has big shoes to fill, portraying a legacy Star Trek character – Captain Pike was Enterprise captain before James T. Kirk. He was originally played by Jeffrey Hunter, and then Sean Kennedy and by Bruce Greenwood in the 2009 and 2013 feature films.
