Actress Sarah Paulson (Run) has a lot on her plate. The 2021 Golden Globe Award nominations were announced on Wednesday morning and she received nomination for Best Actress in a Television Drama for her portrayal as nurse Mildred Ratched in the popular Netflix original series Ratched. Along with discussing the nomination, she also teased her upcoming roles in the highly anticipated tenth season of American Horror Story and third season of American Crime Story to Entertainment Weekly .
Paulson first won a Golden Globe back in 2017 for her portrayal as Marcia Clarke in the first season of the FX anthology series American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J Simpson. On Being nominated for a fourth time, she told Entertainment Weekly: “Here I am on the morning of the Golden Globe nominations being recognized for my work at 46 years old…It feels like, for the fourth time now from the HFPA, it’s an enormous honor. I don’t ever want to lose that part of me that thinks this is a very lucky, rarefied air to be breathing and to really just hold onto my gratitude about it because I have so many extraordinarily talented friends who do not get to make a living doing what they love and the fact that I get to, this always has to just be frosting on a very, very delicious cake.”
Ratched, executive produced by Ryan Murphy (The Politician), received several other nominations as well. Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City) was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series for her portrayal as Gwendoyln Briggs, and the series was nominated for Best Television Drama.

Paulson will star in the upcoming tenth season of the FX anthology series American Horror Story, which has been kept very under-wraps. She gave a little hint about her role, revealing to Entertainment Weekly, “The character I’m playing this year on Horror Story has some issues, let’s just put it that way…I have a hair color I’ve never had in life nor in the show. That’s what I can tell you. And I have a great name. I have a great name, which I can’t tell you.”
Shooting for the tenth season was supposed to begin in the summer, but production was halted due to COVID-19. Production then began in the fall, with series executive producer Murphy dropping few hints for the upcoming season’s theme, but there is still little known. In addition to Paulson many other series regulars will be returning for season ten, including Kathy Bates (Richard Jewel), Evan Peters (American Animals), Lily Rabe (Vice), Finn Wittrock (Ratched), Adina Porter (Outer Banks), Angelina Ross (Pose), and Emma Roberts (Holidate).
Paulson is also starring in the upcoming third season of the anthology series American Crime Story, this season subtitled Impeachment. Detailing the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, Paulson will be portraying the controversial figure Linda Tripp. On filming the current season during pandemic, she told Entertainment Weekly, “We’ve been [filming] that since November…Just starting episode 3, I think, on Friday of 10 episodes. So, we are really in it, but everything takes a little bit longer to do with all of the protocols in place.” Clive Owens (Children of Men) will be portraying President Bill Clinton, and Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart) will portray Monica Lewinsky.
The Golden Globes, hosted by Tina Fey (30 Rock) and Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreations), will air February 28 in a virtual ceremony on NBC.
