According to ScreenRant, it has been while since the first season of Paramount+’s Knuckles series aired and although fans are waiting for a second instalment, they have been met with a disappointing update about the future of the popular Sonic the Hedgehog spinoff.
ScreenRant reports that the success of Paramount’s live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movies led to a spinoff series in 2024 following Knuckles through a six-episode first season. The series followed Knuckles as he trained Wade Whipple in the ways of the Echidna warrior while battling new enemies and adapting to life on Earth.
Adam Pally (Sonic the Hedgehog, Iron Man 3), who played Wade Whipple on the series, told The Direct that another season was never part of the original plan, via ScreenRant. “It was a limited series, so… I don’t know if that was ever truly in the cards. But I do know that the franchise is strong and running on a full tank of gas, so to speak. There’s a lot of plans and surprises.”
As per ScreenRant, other than Pally the series cast included Idris Elba (Beasts of no Nation, A House of Dynamite) as Knuckles, Pally as Wade Whipple, Stockard Channing (Where the Heart Is, The Guest Book) as Wendy Whipple, Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones, Knives Out) as Wanda Whipple, Kid Cudi (The Harder They Fall, Under the Ghost: Kid Cudi) as Agent Mason, Ellie Taylor (The Witcher, Ted Lasso) as Agent Willoughby and many others.
According to ScreenRant , Knuckles was one of Paramount+’s most successful original releases, with the show becoming the most-watched Paramount+ series of all time at the time of its release. The success of the series also demonstrated that audiences were willing to follow the franchise beyond the theatre. For now, a second season of the series seems not to be in the books, but with another Sonic film coming out, one may never know what’s to come from the franchise.
Knuckles is available to stream on Paramount+.
