‘South Park’ Creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, Reach Deal to Buy Famed Colorado Restaurant, Casa Bonita

It is almost too good to be true. The South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker (The Book of Mormon) are already in midseason-form when it comes to writing storylines it would seem. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pair has reached an agreement to buy the famous Colorado restaurant/landmark, Casa Bonita.

Casa Bonita, which is located in Lakewood, Colorado, is a giant Mexican restaurant with plenty of attractions besides the food. An arcade, cave, and waterfall with cliff divers are only some of the many family-friendly things to do.

Stone and Parker both visited the restaurant when they were kids and had fond memories of the experience. When the company that owned Casa Bonita, Summit Family Restaurants, filed for Chapter 11 in Arizona this April, it was a no-brainer for the two to go after it. News broke in July that Stone and Parker had approached the company so the deal has moved fast.

Although the final sale is still pending court approval, which will take months, the pair is ready to get to work on the restaurant. Talking with The Hollywood Reporter, Parker said, “We bought it. It just feels natural.” The final price has not been disclosed but Parker deemed it as “fair.”

A big deal like this would have most people pinching a penny, but the South Park creators won’t have to worry. The ink still has not dried on their six year, $935 million deal with ViacomCBS. The new sale is just a cherry on top for the amount of projects the two will have on their plate for the next couple of years.

Casa Bonita has been an important place on South Park, most notably being depicted in a classic 2003 episode. Local trouble maker, Eric Cartman, fakes a global apocalypse just to be invited to a birthday party at the famed restaurant. Here’s to hoping that fans have not seen the last of the Colorado landmark on the show.
