Snoop Dogg Starring in Animated ‘Oaklandia’ Series For Amazon, Vince Vaughn Attached To Produce

Amazon Studios is developing Oaklandia, an animated series starring rapper Snoop Dogg (Bones, Baby Boy), according to Deadline. Snoop Dogg and his manager/partner Ted Chung (Coolaid: The Movie, Reincarnated) will executive produce along with actor Vince Vaughn (Freaky, Fred Claus) and his Wild West Picture Show Productions. Additional producers include Victoria Vaughn (Term Life, Give Us This Day), Peter Billingsley (A Christmas Story, Couples Retreat), Daniel Dominguez (Seis Manos, Gen:Lock) and Chris Powell (Detroiters, Black Jesus). Dominguez and Powell will write the adult cartoon which is to be set in Oakland.

Snoop Dogg aka Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. has lent his voice to animated projects before. According to Deadline, he has appeared in FOX’s The Cleveland Show and Comedy Central’s puppet series Crank Yankers. His latest feature was in the 2020 animated film The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On the Run. 

According to DeadlineOaklandia marks the latest animated series being developed for the Amazon streaming service. The platform announced both Fairfax and Ricky & Cricket earlier this year. From Matt Hausfater (Undateable, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry), Aaron Buchsbaum (Shanghai Dawn) and Teddy Riley (Psych), Fairfax will explore the recent Hypebeast culture of Los Angeles millennial adults and youth. The three will develop the series with famed animation studio, Titmouse (Big Mouth, Nerdland)Ricky & Cricket comes from Peter Murrieta (Mr. Iglesias, Superior Donuts), Isaac Gonzalez (Welcome to the Family, Legends of Chamberlain), and Erik Rivera (Off Script).

On the live-action side, Snoop Dogg has appeared for three seasons on VH1’s Martha & Snoop’s Potluck & Dinner Party with co-host and lifestyle marvel Martha Stewart, according to Deadline. He currently is working on a scripted series, Game, with Martin Lawrence (Bad Boys For Life, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins) for CBS TV Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer TV.

Vince Vaughn recently starred in the horror-comedy Freaky, in which he plays a serial killer who switches bodies with his teenage girl victim. According to Deadline, his Wild West Picture Show Productions is behind several projects across TV including Netflix’s F is for Family, Audience Network’s Undeniable, and ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentary The ’85 Bears.
