‘Sin City’ TV Series In the Works, May Soon Be Picked Up By A Network

Once again, we will have a chance to return to Basin City/Sin City. Confirmed this afternoon by Deadline, The Weinstein Company/Dimension Films are working on a tv series based on neo-noir graphic novel and film series Sin City. Originally written as a pulp fiction comic by Frank Miller, the series is known for its black and white artwork, with certain scenes emphasized by the colors of red, yellow, blue, or pink. The unique coloring was maintained in the feature film series, which led to critical acclaim and world recognition of the franchise.

Glen Mazzara, who has previously served as showrunner on shows such as The Shield, The Walking Dead and The Omen, will pen the series. Len Wiseman, most well-known for being a director/producer on the Underworld series, also directed films Total Recall and Live Free, Die Hard, the pilot episodes of Sleepy Hollow and Lucifer, is set to direct the first season. Stephen L’Heureux, a producer from the Sin City sequel, will produce, alongside Mazzara, Wiseman, and Bob & Harvey Weinstein.

The original film was co-directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, and starred an ensemble cast, including Jessica Alba, Benicio del Toro, Brittany Murphy, Clive Owen, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Elijah Wood, Josh Hartnett, Alexis Bledel, Rosario Dawson, and the late Powers Boothe. It was screened at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival, and brought in over $158 million globally. A sequel called Sin City: A Dame to Kill For premiered in 2014 adding Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Christopher Lloyd, Eva Green, and Juno Temple to the franchise.

Departing from the film, the Sin City tv series will more closely follow the original comic series, which was first published in 1991, and won multiple Eisner awards. According to the report, networks are already circling the project. Stay tuned for more details.
