The Lena Waithe (Master of None, Twenties) drama The Chi will be receiving its fourth season, as ordered by its network, Showtime, according to Deadline. The 2018 coming-of-age drama series takes place in the South Side of Chicago, following its residents as they seek redemption in an unforgiving neighborhood. The Chi focuses on Kevin, played by Alex R. Hibbert (Moonlight), Brandon, played by Jason Mitchell (Straight Outta Compton, Mudbound), Emmet, played by Jacob Latimore (Sleight, Black Nativity), and Ronnie, played by Ntare Mwine (Treme, Biro).
The Chi is executive produced by Common (Selma), Justin Hillian (I’m Dying Up Here, Snowfall), Aaron Kaplan (The Neighbors, Life In Pieces), Derek Dudley (Meet The Blacks), and Shelby Stone (Lackawanna Blues, Bessie), alongside Waithe. The series received acclaim for its portrayal of the joys and hardships endured by South Side residents.
In a statement, President of Entertainment at Showtime Networks Gary Levine (He Shoots, He Scores) said, “Each season, The Chi’s authentic storytelling resonates more deeply with its devoted and growing audiences. Lena Withe together with Justin Hillian explore the joys and heartbreak of life on the South Side in a way that is unique on television, and we relish the prospect of continuing that exploration with them,” via Deadline.
