ABC News Looking to Address Racial Injustices Through Month-Long Series ‘Turning Point,’ and Other Shows

ABC News is looking to create awareness about issues of racial justice by launching several investigative series, as reported by Deadline. To start, the network will roll out a month long series starting Tuesday called Turning Point, which will temporarily replace the Nightline timeslot at 12:05 AM from September 8th to the 21st.

Turning Point is said to examine the racial reckoning sweeping the nation and to explore whether or not it can lead to a legacy of lasting reconciliation. The series will feature a variety of segments, including an animation narrated by Whoopi Goldberg (Sister Act) surveying the topic of reparations. Other anchors and correspondents already confirmed to appear on the show include Juju Chang (Good Morning America), Byron Pitts (Good Morning America: Weekend Edition), Diane Sawyer (20/20), Robin Roberts (20/20), Michael Strahan (Good Morning America), George Stephanopoulos (Nightcap), David Muir (ABC World News Tonight) and others.

Marie Nelson, senior vice president of integrated content strategy for ABC News, said in a statement, as shown via The Hollywood Reporter, “Over the past few weeks and months, there has been a fever pitch echoing across the nation for this country to combat and undo its hundreds of years of systemic racism and inequities. With these special ‘Turning Point’ reports our viewers will see our commitment to addressing this pivotal moment.This next month ABC News will provide context, history and hope with meaningful and impactful stories across broadcast, streaming, digital, audio and mobile”

Turning Point is produced through Nightline and ABC News’ race and culture unit.

Other series being aired on ABC News will include World News tonight With David Muir, which will look at the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on poor communities. The news broadcast will also look at how issues of global warming widen the gap of inequalities especially in hard-hit communities.

Other segments on topics of racial injustice will be featured on Good Morning America, GMA3, This Week, The View, ABC News Live Prime and other shows.
