Showtime’s ‘The Affair’ Releases Fifth & Final Season’s Trailer

Showtime has released the official teaser for the final season of the critically acclaimed series, The Affair, which will premiere Sunday on August 25th at 9 p.m. ET/PT.  The series is executive produced and created by playwright  and writer, Sarah Treem who wrote for the series: House of Cards and In Treatment.

The drama will see the return of stars: Dominic West, Maura Tierney and Sanaa Lathan, while Anna Paquin joins the cast as a new series’ regular — the new season will explore the emotional and psychological effects of an affair that destroyed two marriages, and the crime that brings these individuals back together.

Following the events leading up to Alison’s (Ruth Wilson) death at the hands of her boyfriend in the finale, the fifth season will chronicle the aftermath of the horrific event as characters find themselves coming to terms with the consequences of their choices. Per usual, story lines will run parallel to each and introduce conflicting narratives.

Helen (Tierney) begins the season involved in an intoxicating new affair with a charismatic movie star (guest star Claes Bang), who offers to give her everything she’s been missing. Noah (West) meanwhile has to swallow his pride and his jealousy and step in to take care of his family in her absence. But just when things seem to have stabilized, a chance encounter with someone from the distant past sets in a motion a sequence of events that brings them both to their knees.

Paquin was previously cast as Alison and Cole’s now grown-up daughter Joanie Lockhart, who will return in the series’ future, as she tries to piece together the truth about what happened to her mother. Star Joshua Jackson will not be returning for the last installment, despite rumors he may return in a guest starring role.

Julia Goldani Telles and Jadon Sand will play the Solloway’s children, Whitney and Trevor, while Jennifer Jason Leigh, Claes Bang and Lyriq Bent round out the series’ supporting cast. Russell Hornsby returns as a guest star as well, with others including Emily Browning, Omar Metwally, John Doman, Kathleen Chalfant, Max Fowler, Michael Braun, Abigail Dylan Harrison and Jake Siciliano.
