Showtime Updates Upcoming Schedule Including ‘Comey Rule’, ‘The Good Lord Bird’, And More

As Hollywood prepares to resume production after closing due to the coronavirus pandemic, Showtime is one of many networks adjusting their schedules. The upcoming late summer and fall schedule includes continued scripted content as well as new series, as stated in a press release by ViacomCBS.

Showtime announced the acquisition of BBC Studio’s six-episode drama We Hunt Together, starring Eve Myles (Keeping Faith), Babou Ceesay (Guerrilla), Hermione Corfield (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), and Dipo Ola (Inside No. 9). The hour-long episode series follows two conflicted detectives, played by Myles and Ceesay, as they track down a pair of killers, played by Corfield and Ola. The announcement says, “We Hunt Together explores the intoxication of sexual attraction and dangerous power of emotional manipulation…and reveals how finding a volatile form of solace in another can have dire consequences.” The series is written by Gaby Hull (The Dark Mile) and directed by Carl Tibbetts (Timeless) with a premiere date of Sunday, August 9 at 10 p.m. You can watch the official trailer released in February below:

The Comey Rule stars Emmy winner Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom) as former FBI Director James Comey and fellow Emmy winner Brendan Gleeson (Into the Storm) as President Donald J. Trump with Oscar-nominated screenwriter Billy Ray (Shattered Glass) directing. The series conveys an account of the historically chaotic events surrounding the 2016 presidential election through the story of two powerful figures, Comey and Trump. This two-part, four-hour limited series is set to air Sunday, September 27, and Monday, September 29 at 9 p.m.

The Good Lord Bird is also new to Showtime and its premiere date has changed; the series is based on the 2013 National Book Award-winning novel by James McBride of the same name. It follows Onion, played by Joshua Caleb Johnson (Ray Meets Helen), a fictional enslaved boy who becomes acquainted with the family of John Brown, played by Ethan Hawke (Dead Poets Society). The Brown family consists of abolitionist soldiers and eventually, Onion finds himself involved in the well-known 1859 raid at Harpers Ferry. The Good Lord Bird highlights complicated racial, religious and gender roles that exists in America. Instead of August 9, it will now premiere on Sunday, October 4 at 9 p.m.

Additionally, Showtime has made additions and alterations with non-fiction content in the form of its docuseries and documentaries:

The Comedy Store is a five-part documentary series directed by comedian Mike Binder, chronically the evolution of comedy within the walls of an L.A. club. It will premiere on Sunday, October 4 at 10 p.m.

The Reagans navigates through the unexamined features of the Reagan White House and how Nancy Reagan’s image contradicted the power she exhibited during the duration of her husband’s presidency. Directed by Matt Tyrnauer (Studio 54), the four-part documentary series premieres Sunday, November 15 at 8 p.m.

Belushi, directed by R.J. Cutler (If I Stay), is a feature documentary examining John Belushi and how his talent, which captivated audiences, was stripped away at a young age. Cutler will show viewers how much of an influence Belushi was in his feature documentary premiering Sunday, November 22 at 9 p.m.
