Showtime Releases Official Trailer of the Final Season of ‘The Affair’

On Tuesday, July 2, Showtime released both the official trailer and poster for season five of The Affair. This marks the final season of the critically acclaimed drama, which boasts multiple Golden Globe Awards. Season five will premiere on August 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime, and stars Dominic West, Maura Tierney and Sanaa Lathan. The Affair was created by Sarah Treem. The WGA Award-winning writer, executive producer and showrunner is celebrated for her work on other acclaimed series like House of Cards and In Treatment.

The first four seasons of The Affair have followed two marriages, both destroyed by an affair. When a crime brings the four back together again, the script delves deeply into the psychological aftermath of the decisions that tore them apart to begin with. Oscar and Golden Globe winner Anna Paquin has joined season five of The Affair as a series regular, and the show is executive produced by Jessica Rhoades (Sharp Objects), Hagai Levi (In Treatment) and Michele Giordono (Nurse Jackie).

The Affair stars Dominic West (Noah Solloway), Ruth Wilson (Alison Lockhart), Maura Tierney (Helen Solloway) and Joshua Jackson (Cole Lockart). In the upcoming season, these actors will be joined by guest stars Jennifer Jason Leigh (PATRICK MELROSE), Claes Bang (The Square), and Lyric Bent (She’s Gotta Have it) in addition to Paquin.

The Affair’s final season will force the cast to come to terms with the consequences of their actions from previous seasons. In an attempt to find what she’s been missing in seasons one through four, Helen (Tierney) will start the final season by instigating an additional affair with a movie star (Bang). In the meantime, Noah (West) will be forced to assume his role at the helm of the family while his estranged wife is preoccupied and away. Noah’s world quickly will turn upside down however, following the arrival unexpected from someone from his past. The season will also jump forward in time to chronicle the experiences of Joanie Lockhart (Paquin), the adult daughter of Cole and Alison, who must now uncover everything her parents went through.
