Showtime Cancels Jim Carrey Comedy ‘Kidding’

The comedy series Kidding starring Jim Carrey (The Truman Show) has been canceled by its network Showtime after two seasons, according to Screen Rant. Created for television by Dave Holstein (Weeds, The Brink), the show released twenty episodes over its two seasons for the premium network. The series is executive produced by Holstein, Carrey, Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Jason Bateman (Ozarks, Arrested Development), Raffi Adlan (The Green Hornet), Michael Aguilar (The Departed), James Garavente (Game Night, Bad Words), and Roberto Benabib (Weeds, 68 Whiskey). Kidding acts as the reunion of lead actor Carrey with director Gondry from their last partnership for the actor’s most critically acclaimed role in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Kidding follows life within Columbus, Ohio and the life of Mr. Pickles or Jeff Piccirillo, a children’s television personality, after tragedy strikes home. Piccirillo is portrayed by Carey with the additional cast being Judy Greer (Arrested Development, 13 Going on 30) as his ex-wife Jill Piccirillo and Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon, The Americans) as his father and executive producer for his children’s television program. Extensive members of the cast include the likes of Catherine Keener (Being John Malkovich, Get Out), Justin Kirk (Weeds, Angels in America), Cole Allen (Round of Your Life), Bernard White (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Silicon Valley) and Juliet Morris (Kidding). The series’ cancellation does not come as a surprise for many as Showtime elected to air two episodes per week during its second season run.

Despite its cancellation, fans of the series can still stream Kidding in its entirety on Hulu and Showtime Now. For long-time fans and interested television fanatics, check out the first season trailer for the dark comedy series below:
