‘Sherlock’ Actor Martin Freeman Returns in Marvel’s ‘Secret Invasion’

The upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion is having another Black Panther character back. Martin Freeman, who portrayed CIA Agent Everett Ross in Black Panther, is set to join the series, via Comic Book. The news was revealed by actor Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) during an on-stage talk named Samuel L. Jackson In Conversation With Josh Horowitz on Thursday, March 10 in New York City.

“How amazing is that? Martin Freeman. Come on. When I walked in the room and Olivia Colman was standing there, I was just like, [excited],” Jackson said in a video snippet of the conversation available on Twitter. “We just started laughing, and when we started to work, it was so glorious and such a ball. We were just kind of having a good time. She is so amazing and so effective in a scene.”

Freeman will continue playing his role as Everett Ross. The character was first introduced in the 2016 movie Captain America: Civil War. It then hit the blockbuster Black Panther in 2018. The CIA agent is set to return to theaters later this year with the upcoming project Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Known for playing Dr. John Watson in Sherlock, Freeman is active in both movies and television. Other than Black Panther and Sherlock, Freeman also earned credits from popular movies and TV series such as The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Love Actually, and Fargo. He is the recipient of a BAFTA Award, an Emmy Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. He also received a Golden Globe Award nomination.

Freeman will be joining the cast with other critically acclaimed actors. One of his co-stars will be Olivia Colman, who won an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award for her performance in The Favorite in 2019. Colman is up for another Oscar contention this year with her newest film The Lost Daughter. Other cast members such as Jackson and Emilia Clark (Game of Thrones) also received multiple accolades throughout their careers.

A BAFTA winner himself, Jackson expressed his joy working with Colman and other talented cast members. “It’s those moments that, when you’re in the middle of doing it and you feel it and you watch it happen, that when they finally say ‘cut,’ you look at the other person and go, ‘Oh my god, that was amazing,'” Jackson continued of the Emmy and Oscar-winning actress. “She was great.”

Secret Invasion is inspired by the Marvel Comics event of the same name. It will consist of six episodes and will be part of Phase Four of the MCU. A release date is to be announced.
