Producer and director Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine, Free Guy) has signed on big deal with Disney’s 20thTelevision that will develop more projects for the media’s platforms. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the deal starts in October 2027 with Levy and his company, 21 Laps Entertainment, starting their big break.
Levy has worked with Netflix since 2017 as executive producer and director for Stranger Things (2016-2025) Tales From ’85 (2026), The Perfect Couple (2024), All the Light We Cannot See (2023), and Shadow and Bone (2021-2023).
But in Levy’s earliest days as a director he worked on Disney channel shows, such as The Famous Jett Jackson (1998-2001) and So Weird (1999-2001). He found that producing episodes for Disney was a passionate experience for the creative minds in storytelling.
Levy worked with Disney President and Chief Creative Officer Dana Walden (This Is Us, Modern Family) when they were both at Fox. Walden says, “Shawn has a rare ability to tell stories that are wildly entertaining and deeply human, something he’s brought to Disney across two decades. He moves effortlessly across genres and franchises and inspires passionate fandom. He’s an incredible storyteller and a true creative partner of the highest caliber, and we are thrilled to be building this net chapter together.”
In recent Disney works, Levy has wrapped up the new Star Wars feature film, Starfighter, which Ryan Gosling (Project Hail Mary, Drive) stars in as the main role. Levy will continue working with Gosling and screenwriter Jonathan Tropper (Your Friends & Neighbors, This Is Where I Leave You) for the Ghost Rider movie under Marvel and 20th Century Studios.
Disney Entertainment Television Chairman Debra O’Connell (Disney Branded Television, ABC Entertainment) is another member of the Disney team that Levy works with, who is proud to have Shawn and his company on the team.
Levy and his company will be supported by William Morris Endeavor (WME) and Attorney Wendy Kirk of Johnson Shapiro.
