Since the ending of the WGA strike, late-night television is coming back in full force, and Late Night host Seth Meyers is already hard at work. In an Instagram post on Monday, he shared a selfie with a big smile and the first peek at the script for the upcoming new episode. It seems that the new episode will be filled with political humor as the opening lines of the script pin some jokes on Donald Trump.
The photo of the script reads, “Welcome back, everyone! I’m not sure what you’ve been up to these past five months, but I’ve used the time to reflect and have come to the conclusion that yes, I’ve been too hard on the guy. Who among us isn’t under multiple indictments?”. With that, the caption on the post also reads “So happy to be back at my desk writing again, tonight’s show is an hourlong ‘Closer Look’ that will catch up on the last five months as well as today’s events. I mean what are the odds that the day we come back a former President is appearing in court? Only 2-1? Huh, I thought they’d be higher…” referring to the civil fraud trial of Trump currently happening in New York City.

Meyers was among many other WGA members on strike for over 140 days. Last Wednesday, September 27, the WGA reached an agreement with AMPTP and it was announced that the strike was over. While writers are now back in the writing rooms, SAG-AFTRA is still on strike. Even though the actor’s strike plays on, late-night TV is allowed to return, but will not feature any guests who are a part of SAG-AFTRA.
Throughout the WGA strike, Meyers has been a part of a team of late-night TV hosts who created and starred on the podcast, Strike Force Five. He hosted alongside Jimmy Fallon (The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Saturday Night Live), Stephen Colbert (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert), Jimmy Kimmel (Jimmy Kimmel Live!), and John Oliver (The Daily Show, Community). Strike Force Five was created with the intention to support and raise money for their striking writers and staff.
Late Night With Seth Meyers is set to return on Monday, October 2 on NBC.
