Seeso is wasting no time with The UCB Show.
NBC’s paid comedy streaming service has renewed The UCB Show for a second season with filming starting immediately at the 18th Annual Del Close Improv Comedy Marathon in New York City, Deadline reports. The series comes from Upright Citizens Brigade founding members Matt Besser, Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts and Matt Walsh.
This year’s lineup of comics at Del Close features Scott Adsit, Abbi Jacobson, Ilana Glazer, Ben Schwartz and Lauren Lapkus just to name a few. The Del Close marathon has had a live-recording of UCB co-founder Matt Besser’s Earwolf podcast Improv4Humans with this year being no exception.
This news comes just days after Besser, Poehler, Roberts and Walsh inked a first-look deal with Universal Cable Productions. Under that deal the founding members are developing five shows for UCP which are We Can’t Fix You, House of Delta, Sing, The Peligroso Project and Hell House.
The UCB Show highlights the many talented improvisers and comedians at the UCB theaters in L.A. and New York through sketches, improv and stand-up segments. The show has featured UCB greats including James Adomian, Dominic Dierkes, Echo Kellum, Seth Morris, Pam Murphy and Betsy Sodaro. Besser, Poehler, Roberts and Walsh are executive producers on the series along with Bart Coleman and Lou Wallach.
Seeso has also acquired Todd Biebers’s (Never Before, Never Again: Behind the Scenes of Assscat) documentary Thank You, Del: The Story of the Del Close Marathon. Considering that the second season of The UCB Show is filming at this years Del Close Comedy Marathon, it makes sense that both projects share a home together on Seeso. The doc is a tribute and celebration of influential comedian/actor Del Close, the Del Close Comedy Marathon that was started by the UCB after Close’s death and of improv in general. The doc features a wide array of comedians including Matt Besser, Mike Birbiglia, Michael Cera, Louis C.K., Adam McKay, Nick Kroll, Sean Conroy, Janeane Garofalo, Zach Woods, Matt Walsh, Hortio Sanz, Ian Roberts, Harold Ramis, Chris Gethard, Brian Huskey, Jason Mantzoukas, Amy Poehler, Conan O’Brien and Bill Murray.
