Season 3 of ‘Naked And Afraid XL’ Returns to Discovery

Get ready to bare all, because Naked And Afraid XL returns to Discovery for its perilous season yet. Season 3 boasts an “alarming” number of setbacks and injuries endured by the 9 survivalists (instead of the usual 12), this time in the amazon basin of Ecuador. Approximately 100 miles far of any metropolis, Discovery says the survivalists will endure a six-week challenge, or 40 days, navigating around muddy terrain, swamps and rivers, avoiding the poisonous and deadly bushmaster snake, along with piranhas, anacondas and caiman, all while avoiding flesh-eating bacteria and mosquitoes. A number of plot twists and surprise visitors may make an appearance this season. We’re all wondering who! Previous season contenders, or notable Discovery survivalists, perhaps?

According to the Inquisitr, participants include Matt Wright, Colorado native who served in the Air Force and previously competed on Naked And Afraid in Thailand, Russell Sage from Naked And Afraid in Panama, Charlie Frattini in Colombia, Lacey Jones in Belize, Amber Hargrove in the Florida Everglades, Giovanna Horning in Ecuador, Fernando Calderon in Malaysia, Shannon Kulpa in Trinidad, and Matt Alexander in the Philippines. Head on over to Discovery’s Naked And Afraid bio page to read more.

Naked And Afraid XL is a spin-off reality series of Naked And Afraid. Survivalists are stripped of their clothing, and tasked with surviving 40 days in the wilderness, using only the environment’s natural resources and materials to provide food, water, and build shelter. Camera crews do not intervene, unless of medical emergency, and the survivalists may ‘tap-out’ at any time, forfeiting the challenge. At the end of the 40 days, participants must successfully navigate to an extraction point whereby the challenge is marked completed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Naked and Afraid XL debuted in 2015 and was the year’s top new unscripted cable series across several key adult demos, including 25-54 and 18-49, and total viewers. The second season was Sunday night’s most watched unscripted cable series across adults 25-54 and males 25-54.”

The show is produced by Sean Foley, David Story, David Garfinkle, Jay Renfroe, Joseph Boyle, and Denise Contis.

Naked And Afraid XL returns Sunday, April 23rd at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery.
