“Saturday Night Live” spoofs “Friends” ahead of cast reunion

Once again, one of your favorite “Friends” characters will always be there for you.

Ahead of most of the “Friends” cast reuniting Sunday as a tribute to James Burrows, NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” caught up with “Friends” character Rachel Green, portrayed by Vanessa Bayer in the spoof, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bayer, wearing the famous “The Rachel” wig, came out wearing overalls and a brown long sleeved shirt, quintessential 90s garb.

Bayer did a spot-on impression of Jennifer Aniston’s famous role, including how she seemed so surprised at any question she was asked, which Weekend Update cohost Colin Jost comments on, to, which no one’s shock, she seemed surprised by. Bayer also expressed shock over seeing Weekend Update cohost Michael Che, since he’s African American and “Friends” didn’t have diversity among the cast members.

She also made fun of the fact that Rachel’s on screen daughter, Emma, would appear and reappear at different parts of the show by holding a baby doll and quickly passing it off to someone off camera.
Bayer’s Rachel said that the famous friends still hang out and that Phoebe is playing at Central Perk that night and says Jost should join her.

She also comments on the famed opening sequence, saying after Phoebe’s show they would jump around in a fountain with umbrellas, which is one of the first things viewers see when the opening theme starts playing.

Bayer is well-known for her impressions on “Saturday Night Live,” some of her more famous ones being the Jewish Boy in some of the Weekend Update segments and her Miley Cyrus impression.

On Jimmy Kimmel Live last summer, she also did impressions of the “Friends” cast. She does another Rachel impression, in which she acts like she’s not sure about a lot of things and speaks in jumbled thoughts with lots of “um” and “uh” placeholders. She also impersonated Monica and did her fast paced talking. Her Chandler impression wasn’t as good as some of the other ones, but you can judge for yourself in the video below.

In the video, she didn’t do a Joey or Ross impression, which are two of the easier ones to do as both of them have their signature catchphrases. Fans know that Joey always says “How you doin’?” while early in the show’s run, Ross would always greet everyone with a mopey sounding “hi.”

Bayer did an impression of Rachel in honor of most of the cast reuniting on Feb. 21 to celebrate James Burrows, a director who just directed his 1,000th episode. Many different casts are expected to reunite, including the cast of “Friends” and “Will and Grace.”

The special airs Feb. 21 on NBC.
