Sarah Michelle Gellar Cast in Pilot for Amazon’s YA Comedy ‘Hot Pink’

Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will star in the Amazon YA comedy pilot Hot Pink, according to Variety. Loosely based on Elana K. Arnold’s book What Girls Are Made Of, the series is executive produced and created by Elisabeth Holm (Obvious Child).

Hot Pink will be produced by Amazon Studios in association with Annapurna. If ordered to series, it will become a part of Amazon’s growing list of young adult titles like The Wilds (already renewed for second season) and the upcoming drama series, Panic, according to Variety.

What Girls Are Made Of was a National Book Award Finalist published in 2017. According to the publisher Holiday House’s website, it follows 16-year-old Nina, who, after a breakup, reflects on the events of her life that shaped her understanding of what love really means.

Gellar played the titular character in the teen favorite Buffy the Vampire Slayer from 1997-2003. Additional television credits include The Crazy Ones and All My Children, for which she received a Daytime Emmy Award. Gellar also starred in hit films like I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scooby-Doo, Cruel Intentions and The Grudge.

Joining Holm as executive producer and director will be Desiree Akhavan (Hulu’s The Bisexual) along with Rebecca Green (It Follows), Sue Naegle (The Plot Against America) and Ali Krug (Monsterland).
