Rosario Dawson Joins Cast Of Hulu Series ‘Dopesick’

Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Seven Pounds) has officially joined the cast of the upcoming Hulu drama series Dopesick as series regular, according to VarietyThe series centers around a Virginia mining community through Big Pharma Manhattan, following America’s ongoing struggle with opioid addiction. The series is based on the book under the same name by Beth Macy.

Dawson joins the list of previously announced cast members Michael Keaton (Batman, Beetlejuice), Peter Sargaard (An Education, Green Lantern), Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart, Last Man Standing), and Will Poulter (The Maze Runner, We’re The Millers). The film star will play the role of Bridget Meyer, a tough DEA agent who fights against the use of OxyContin. Primarily known for her roles in films, Dawson has appeared in well-known projects such as Rent, Sin City, Clerks II, and Death Proof, as well as made lesser known appearances in TV shows such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Jane the Virgin. 

Dopesick is slated to be written by Danny Strong (Gilmore Girls, Empire) and will be executive produced by Strong and Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Wag the Dog). Alongside Strong and Levinson, John Goldwyn (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), Macy, and Karen Rosenfelt (Me Before You).

America’s opioid crisis has recently gained recognition in the form of several other television projects, including the Starz series Hightown which debuted in May and was renewed for second season in June, as well as the upcoming Netflix series Narcos: Mexico.
