Robert Kirkman’s ‘Invincible’ Announces Additional Voice Cast For Animated Adaptation on Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime’s upcoming adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s (The Walking Dead, Outcast) comic Invincible announced slew of new talent to its cast, according to Deadline. During the animated series’ panel at CCXP Worlds virtual event, an additional eight actors were revealed to have joined the series set to premiere in 2021. These actors already join series leads Steven Yeun (Minari, Burning) and J.K. Simmons (Counterpart, The Closer). The animated project reunites Yeun with The Walking Dead creator as he portrayed Glen on AMC’s live-action adaptation of the zombie comic series.

According to Deadline, the show added Mahersala Ali (Green Book, Moonlight), Jeffery Donovan (Burn Notice, Shut Eye), Nicole Byer (Nailed It, Party Over Here), Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption, Spongebob Squarepants), Jonathan Groff (Mindhunter, Looking), Jon Hamm (Bridemaids, Mad Men), Ezra Miller (Justice League, We Need to Talk About Kevin), and Djimon Hounsou (Shazam, Beauty Shop). These eight join an A-list cast that includes Sandra Oh (Killing Eve, Grey’s Anatomy), Gillian Jacobs (Community, Love), Seth Rogen (Knocked Up, An American Pickle), Andrew Rannells (Black Monday, The Boys in the Band), and Zazie Beetz (Joker, Atlanta).

According to Deadline, Yeun will star as Mark Grayson, an average seventeen-year-old who just happens to be the son of the world’s greatest superhero, Onmi-Man, played by Simmons. As Mark’s powers begin to manifest, he will have to contend with an image of his father that doesn’t fit the hero’s pristine legacy. The Skybound and Image Comics series was written by Kirkman and Cory Walker (Science Dog) with art from Ryan Ottley (Amazing Spider-Man: Hunted). It is Kirkman’s second-longest-running comic series, lasting for 15 years until concluding in February of 2018.

According to Deadline, Kirkman will executive produce along with Simon Racioppa (Spliced, Scourge of Worlds: A Dungeons & Dragons Adventure), David Alpert (Air, Spare Parts), and Catherine Winder (The Angry Birds Movie, Star Wars: The Clone Wars). Additional producers include supervising directors Justin Allen (Avengers Assemble) and Chris Copeland (Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight) and casting director, Linda Lamontagne (BoJack Horseman, Robot Chicken). Skybound will also produce. The eight one-hour long episode series is Amazon Prime’s second venture into adult animation, with the first being 2019’s drama series Undone.
