Marvel’s ‘Zodiac’ Spawns Fan Theories With Easter Eggs Hidden In Minimalist Logo

Marvel Television surprised its massive fanbase with the announcement of a new live-action series at New York Comic Con. During its Oct. 8 panel, it confirmed Zodiac as the next TV project coming to Disney+. The news comes after the brand sought to reduce its live-action TV output after this month’s VisionQuest and 2027’s final season of Daredevil: Born Again. View the new logo below.

Described as a global espionage thriller, Zodiac’s mere logo has sparked a fervor of online conversation, with the artwork alluding to an array of comic connections. The most apparent is the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. logo displayed within the “A.” Die hard fans of the MCU’s first TV series theorized this could mean the beloved series and its characters could finally become proper canon.

For those unfamiliar, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was an ABC series that aired from 2013 to 2020, following the grounded missions of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, led by Agent Phil Coulson. The show’s timeline followed Coulson’s resurrection from the first Avengers movie, and the arrival of HYDRA in Captain America: Winter Soldier, before taking on a more isolated story, including Inhumans and the Cree. These feelings grew stronger after Coulson himself, actor Clark Gregg (Marvel’s Avengers, The New Adventures of Old Christine) posted the new series logo in his Instagram Stories.

Beyond the S.H.I.E.L.D. hopefuls are deep lore fans focusing on the mysterious shape serving as the “O” in the logo. Theorists identify this as being the Great Wheel, a callback to Jonathan Hickman’s Secret Warriors comic run. X member @vikku60879 posted that the symbol represented a secret organization created by Leonardo Da Vinci.

Hickman’s Secret Warriors found an exiled Nick Fury assembling a misfit team to counter a new nefarious SHIELD regime. Within Secret Warriors, according to Murphy’s Multiverse, the Great Wheel was a collection of history’s greatest spies that rewrote SHIELD’s origins, connecting it to ancient Egypt. The 12-member organization shared representation from MI6 and SHIELD to the CIA, SWORD and more. View an imprint of the collective below.

The Great Wheel appears broken in the logo due to two of the members’ organizations betraying the whole, thus opening the door for HYDRA and other villainous sects. A full explanation was posted by @Marvel_Insights on X.

After Marvel fumbled Secret Invasion, this could be a great palette cleanser that helps walk fans through Doomsday and the eventual events of Secret Wars. In addition to the rumors on the story’s plot, casting theories are swarming as well. With the news that Samuel L. Jackson’s (The Beast, Black Snake Moan) Fury won’t return until Secret Wars, two names have popped up as Fury variants for the series.

Some speculate that The Walking Dead: Dead City and Sterling Point star, Jeffery Dean Morgan, is being selected for the role, while others have alleged Lanterns and Anniversary’s Kyle Chandler as wearing the iconic eyepatch. Only time will tell as the series is not set to release until 2028.
