According to Comicbook, the creator of The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman (Invincible, Renfield) talks about the series potentially having an animated adaptation. The Walking Dead as franchise has gained many different adaptations since its creation from comic books, video games, and even its television universe at AMC. Kirkman has recently stated how a possible animated version of his popular series would be more faithful to the comic book.
Kirkman responded to a fan’s letter saying, “I think it would be a lot of fun to do a faithful animated adaptation, but I don’t know AMC’s appetite for such things.”
The Walking Dead follows the story of many individuals who group up together after the world is faced with a zombie apocalypse. The series had 11 seasons until it ended on November 20th, 2022. The series dealt with an immense zombie outbreak in the world as well as the drama between different individuals in the group while they tried to survive day by day.
According to Comicbook, AMC released an eight-minute animated motion comic adaptation of the series in 2010, and It adapted 13 pages of Kirman’s comic. When it comes to future spinoffs Kirkman currently has no time for them as he states that he is, “knee-deep in the future of Invincible.”
Kirkman wrote in the letters column, “I’m very happy with where the show ended up. I think showrunner Angela Kang (Black Sun) did a great job on the final seasons. I think every show has a wave of expectations that builds and builds up to its conclusion, and it’s very hard to navigate that wave as you reach the end, but Angela handled things really well. The parts of the show that were always most exciting to me are the parts that didn’t follow the comic closely.”
The Walking Dead can be streamed on AMC, Netflix, and Prime Video.
