Richard Belzer will step down from series regular on the long running show after 15 seasons. His character, who has been a regular since the series began, turned in his retirement papers at the end of last nights episode, The Huffington Post explains.
Belzer has been playing the character of John Munch for over 20 years. First appearing in the 1993 series Homicide: Life on the Street, Belzer has appeared in The X-Files, The Beat, Arrested Development, The Wire, Law & Order, and Law & Order: Trial by Jury.
Belzer tells The Huffington Post, “I’d be a fool to say I didn’t want to do it anymore and I’m certainly not bored with the character because the writing is so good, [Munch is] very close to how I would be if I were in that situation, so it’s a dream.”
