According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reese Witherspoon (Cruel Intentions, Legally Blonde) and Nicole Kidman (Eyes Wide Shut, Moulin Rouge!) are in the the process of developing pitch for a potential third season of Big Little Lies. This news comes months after Kidman spoke of her desire to continue the series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Witherspoon backed Kidman’s words during an interview on the Golden Globes red carpet with Variety, “We are working on it. Nic and I have been working on it a lot.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Witherspoon and Kidman have crafted a central idea for the third season and are working on putting together a formal pitch to present to HBO. No official deal has been discussed but both the network and former producers are excited for the future of the series.
Big Little Lies is an adaptation of author Liane Moriarty’s (Nine Perfect Strangers, Apples Never Fall) best-seller. The series was created and written by David E. Kelley (Boston Legal, Ally McBeal). Over the course of two seasons, the series earned eight Emmys, including best limited series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO and Max chief Casey Bloys has said the future of Big Little Lies would be difficult to due to the former cast members busy schedules. Witherspoon stars in Apple’s The Morning Show and has a film, You’re Cordially Invited, in the works along with three tv series she’s producing. Kidman has four films in production and is producing three new television series.
Big Little Lies was put to a sudden halt the passing of the series director, Jean-Marc Vallée.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO declined comment on the future of the series.
Witherspoon has recently appeared in season three of The Morning Show, along with Jennifer Aniston (Friends, Office Space), Billy Crudup (Almost Famous, Public Enemies) and Mark Duplass (The League, The Mindy Project).
Nicole Kidman recently acted in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, along side Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Dune), Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring, Fargo) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (The Handmaid’s Tale, Watchmen).
