Reed Morano Departs from Upcoming Amazon Prime Series ‘The Power’

According to Deadline, Reed Morano (The Handmaid’s Tale, I Think We’re Alone Now) has just exited Amazon Prime’s newest project, The Power, an international thriller drama based on Naomi Alderman’s (The Lessons, Disobedience) best-selling feminist sci-fi book of the same name. Morano, who served as both director and executive producer, had been a part of the series since its initial conception.

Morano directed the first couple of episodes alongside Leslie Mann (Cha Cha Real Smooth, The Bubble) and Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption, Mystic River). Upon completing her set of episodes in March of 2022, Morano chose not to move forward with The Power, citing creative differences, as well as the departures of both Mann and Robbins as her reason for leaving the project. Morano even went so far as to ask that her name be removed from the show’s credits, a condition which Deadline reports that Amazon Prime has agreed to follow.

The Power, which has been in production for over a year now, is headed to reshoots with other directors recreating the new first and second episodes, which both Toni Collette (Hereditary, Knives Out) and Josh Charles (We Own This City, The Good Wife) are slated to appear in. The series also features the acting talents of stars such as John Leguizamo (The Menu, Violent Night), Auli’I Cravalho (Moana, Darby and the Dead), Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan, The Gentlemen), Ria Zmitrowicz (Teen Spirit, Misbehavior), Ana Ularu (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Alex Rider), and many more.

As written by Deadline, The Power‘s first season is set to consist of nine episodes which tell the story of a group of teenage girls who unexpectedly develop the ability to electrocute people at will. The show will feature a wide range of characters from all different corners of the Earth, including London, Seattle, Nigeria, and Eastern Europe.
