Red Carpet Premiere Of ‘Physical’ Canceled After Texas Shooting

The red carpet premiere of the second season of the Apple TV+ comedy-drama series, Physical, was canceled in wake of the elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas that occurred on Tuesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The premiere was expected to take place Tuesday night.

The show’s cast and creative team sent out the following statement to reporters an hour before the check-in for the event was about to begin, per The Hollywood Reporter:

“Out of respect for today’s tragedy in Texas, tonight’s screening of Physical season two will be a private event with no press,” the statement read. “We thank you for wanting to be there with us, and know that you join with us in our heartfelt support for all of the families affected by today’s event. We’re grateful for your understanding.”

The premiere was set to take place at Hollywood’s Linwood Dunn Theater and feature stars Rose Byrne (Neighbors), Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus), Rory Scovel (I Feel Pretty), Dierdre Friel (A Secret Promise), Della Saba (Zootopia) and Paul Sparks (Boardwalk Empire).

This is the first Hollywood event to be canceled in response to the shooting, where 19 children and two adults were killed after a 18-year-old man opened fire at Robbs Elementary School in Uvalde, according to The Associated Press. The man was identified as Salvador Ramos and was killed by an officer after the shooting, according to Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

The first episode of the second season of Physical will be released on Apple TV+ on June 3rd. The show’s first season received better reviews from fans than critics, with the show scoring a 65% critic score and a 79% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
