‘Ray Donovan’ Actress Mary Mara Dies At Age 61

Mary Mara, the actress known for her roles in TV shows such as Ray Donovan, ER, and Nash Bridges, has died, according to a statement from her manager, Craig Dorfman, that he gave to CNN. Mara died at age 61.

“Mary was one of the finest actresses I ever met,” Dorfman said in his statement. “I still remember seeing her onstage in 1992 in ‘Mad Forest’ off Broadway. She was electric, funny, and a true individual. Everyone loved her. She will be missed.”

New York State Police released a statement on Mara’s death, stating that a preliminary investigation suggested Mara drowned in her hometown of Cape Vincent, New York.

“On June 26, 2022, at 8:10 a.m., State Police responded to 33753 Old Farm Road in the town of Cape Vincent, Jefferson County for a reported possible drowning,” the statement read. “When Troopers, along with Cape Vicent Fire and Ambulance arrived on the scene, they discovered a female deceased in the St. Lawrence River.  The victim has been identified as 61-year-old Mary T. Mara from Cape Vincent, NY. The preliminary investigation suggests the victim drowned while swimming. The victim’s body showed no signs of foul play and was transported to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office pending an autopsy to determine an official cause of death. The investigation is continuing.”

Mara’s career spanned from 1989 to 2020, with her first credit being the 1989 TV movie The Preppie Murder and her last credit being the 2020 action film Break Even. Other films Mara is known for appearing in include Prom Night, The Hard Way, A Civil Action, and K-PAX. Outside of Nash Bridges, Ray Donovan, and ER, her TV career included many notable shows such as Criminal Minds, Shameless, Dexter, Lie To Me, Lost, Bones, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Star Trek: Enterprise, The Handler, The West Wing, and The Practice.
