Christopher Storer’s (executive producer, Ramy) new series The Bear has recieved a pilot order from FX. According to Deadline, the half-hour show will be produced by FX Productions, Hiro Murai’s (producer, Atlanta) Super Frog production company, and Joanna Calo (producer, Bojack Horsemen).
The Bear will be a series about a chef who returns to his hometown of Chicago to assist in managing his family’s restaurant, via Deadline. There is no announced production schedule for the series beyond the pilot order. Storer will be writing the pilot script as well as directing the pilot episode.
In addition to Storer, Murai, and Calo, Nate Matteson (producer, Station Eleven) is additionally attached to produce The Bear‘s pilot episode, according to Deadline. Casting will be coordinated by Jeanie Bacharach (casting director, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) and Maggie Bacharach (casting department, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), the casting directors for the pilot.
While there isn’t much word on what to expect from The Bear pilot, the production crew for the show’s first episode is quite experienced, and several have been previously recognized for their earlier work. According to Deadline, Storer produced the A24 film Eighth Grade and served as both an executive producer and director on the Hulu original series, Ramy.
Murai earned Emmy nominations for his work executive producing FX’s Atlanta series, and additionally won a Grammy for Best Music Video for his work on Childish Gambino’s (a.k.a. Donald Glover, Atlanta) video “This Is America”, via Deadline. Finally, Calo was writer on Bojack Horseman for all six seasons of the series, and, according to Deadline, is currently developing multiple shows for both FX and Apple.
