Prime Video’s ‘Young Sherlock’ Adds Sophie Skelton And Others For Season Two

Prime Video has expanded the cast of Young Sherlock ahead of its second season. According to Deadline, Sophie Skelton (Outlander, I Can Only Imagine 2, 211), Indira Varma (Obsession, This Way Up, Game of Thrones), Olivia Williams (The Ghost Writer, The Sixth Sense, An Education) and Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, Bohemian Rhapsody) have joined the series as new regulars. 

The four actors join returning cast members Hero Fiennes Tiffin (After, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, After We Collided) as Sherlock Holmes, Dónal Finn (The Wheel of Time, The Witcher, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore) as James Moriarty, Natascha McElhone (Ronin, The Truman Show, Big Nothing) as Cordelia Holmes, Max Irons (The Wife, The Host, Red Riding Hood) as Mycroft Holmes and Holly Cattle (Cobra, Mr Loverman, Rivals) as Beatrice Holmes. Character details for the new additions have not yet been revealed. 

Season two will also see several departures following the events of the first season. Zine Tseng (3 Body Problem, Learning English) will not return after her character Xiao Wei concluded her storyline in the season one finale. Joseph Fiennes (Risen, Elizabeth, The Merchant of Venice) and Numan Acar (Homeland, Aladdin, Spider-Man: Far from Home) are also not expected to return following the season one finale. 

Young Sherlock serves as an origin story for Arthur Conan Doyle’s (Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes) iconic detective. Guy Ritchie (Snatch, The Gentlemen, In the Grey) serves as an executive producer and is directing the first episode of season two, which is currently in production.

According to Prime Video, the first season reached 45 million viewers during its first 28 days of release and ranked among the streamer’s top 10 original seasons of all time. The series also reached the number one spot in more than 95 countries. 

Created for television by Matthew Parkhill (Deep State, Rogue, Dot the I), Young Sherlock is executive produced by Parkhill alongside Marc Resteghini (Rings, The Kid, Catwoman), Dhana Rivera Gilbert (Vinyl, Boardwalk Empire, Cast Away), Simon Maxwell (Deep State, The Woman in the Wall, American Odyssey), Ivan Atkinson (Wrath of Man, The Gentlemen, The Covenant), Simon Kelton (Eddie the Eagle, A Christmas Carol, Blackmoor), Colin Wilson (The Lost World: Jurassic Park, The Meg, Detroit) and Harriet Creelman (The Woman in the Wall, One Night, Sanditon). 

A premiere date for Young Sherlock season two has not yet been announced.
