Prime Video Unveils Teaser And Release Date For ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny,’ An Indian Spin-off Of Hit Series

According to Comicbook.com, Prime Video has officially released the teaser trailer for Citadel: Honey Bunny, a new Indian series that expands the universe of the popular action series Citadel. The teaser provides the first glimpse of this highly anticipated spinoff, and fans now have a release date to mark on their calendars—Citadel: Honey Bunny will premiere globally on November 7, 2024.

The announcement was made during a fan event attended by the series’ directors Raj Nidimoru (99, Go Goa Gone, Happy Ending) and Krishna DK (The Family Man, Farzi, Stree), and its star, Varun Dhawan (Student Of The Year, Main Tera Hero, Stree 2). As mentioned by Comicbook.com, the creators promised an engaging blend of espionage and romance, all set against the rich cultural backdrop of the 1990s. The series is expected to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, combining thrilling spy elements with a compelling love story.

The original Citadel series, which debuted in 2023, was a massive success for Prime Video. Starring Richard Madden (Bodyguard, Cinderella, 1917), Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Quantico, Baywatch, Love Again), Stanley Tucci (The Lovely Bones, The Devil Wears Prada, The Hunger Games) and Lesley Manville (Back To Black, Let Him Go, Mum), it quickly became the streaming service’s second most-watched new original series outside of the U.S. and its fourth most-watched worldwide within just 24 days of its release. According to Comicbook.com, the series was executive produced by the Russo Brothers (The Gray Man, Cherry, Past Midnight) AGBO, who have continued their involvement in the franchise’s global expansion.

Nikhil Madhok (Ok Computer, Special Ops), Head of Original Content at Prime Video India, expressed his excitement about the upcoming series. “We are thrilled to announce the premiere date for the much-awaited Citadel: Honey Bunny,” Madhok said. He highlighted Raj & DK’s unique narrative style, noting that the series is expected to captivate audiences with its blend of ’90s charm and modern storytelling.

Raj & DK also shared their enthusiasm, emphasizing the show’s ambitious scope. “Citadel: Honey Bunny is a swashbuckling blend of gritty, fast-paced action and compelling drama with exceptional performances. We are excited to introduce Varun as an edgy action hero, and Samantha has upped her action game to the next level,” they said. As reported by Comicbook.com, the directors also expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support and anticipation from fans since the series was announced.

According to Comicbook.com, Citadel: Honey Bunny is part of a larger franchise strategy by Prime Video, with each series within the Citadel universe featuring local talent and being produced and filmed in the region where it is set. This approach brings distinct cultural elements and stylistic uniqueness to each installment. Prior to the release of Citadel: Honey Bunny, fans can look forward to the Italian spinoff Citadel: Diana, which is set to debut on October 10, 2024.

As the release date approaches, excitement continues to build for Citadel: Honey Bunny, which will be available exclusively on Prime Video across India and in over 240 countries and territories worldwide on November 7. With its intriguing storyline, stellar cast and the proven creative team behind it, the series is poised to make a significant impact on the global streaming landscape.
