Prime Video Releases Trailer For Donald Glover’s ‘Swarm’

Amazon Prime Video has released the official trailer for its upcoming series Swarm. The show is set to debut on March 17, following its world premiere at the SXSW festival only a few days prior.

A first look at photos are available here. The trailer is available below.

Swarm follows “Dre, a young woman whose obsession with a pop star takes a dark turn,” via The Hollywood Reporter. Dre will be portrayed by BAFTA nominee Dominique Fishback, who has starred in Project Power, Night Comes On, The Hate U Give, and two-time Oscar-winning film Judas and the Black Messiah. Fishback will also produce.

The tagline for Swarm is “Murder. Sex. Music.” The series is reportedly based on a Beyoncé-like figure.

Two-time Emmy winner Donald Glover (Community, Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Janine Nabers (Watchmen, Away) are the co-creators of the thriller. Glover also directed the first episode of the season. Stephen Glover (Atlanta, Guava Island), Fam Udeorji (Creed II, House Party), Steve Prinz (Paper Girls, Them), Oscar nominee Michael Schaefer (The Martian, The Northman), and newcomer Steve Prinz serve as executive producers. Malia Obama joins the group of writers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

When asked about the show by Vanity Fair, Glover said it was “post-truth Piano Teacher mixed with The King of Comedy.” Additionally, Nabers said that they drew inspiration from popular antiheroes like Don Draper from Mad Men and Tony Soprano from The Sopranos. Their ultimate goal was to create an antihero using Dre, “through the lens of a Black, modern-day woman.”

Swarm includes Chloe Bailey (Last Holiday, A Wrinkle In Time) as Dre’s sister, Marissa, and Damson Idris (Snowfall, Outside The Wire) as Dre’s boyfriend.

Some of Glover’s anticipated projects are a movie for beloved sitcom Community and a Spider-Man spinoff movie from Sony Pictures that will focus on the villain Hypno-Hustler.
