Cruel Intentions has officially received an eight-episode series order from Prime Video, Deadline reports. Prime Video has also announced the entire cast of the series.
The series was being developed at Amazon Freevee for the past two years and was picked up by the platform in April, before moving to Prime Video.
Prime Video’s Cruel Intentions is a modern adaptation of the 1999 film starring Sarah Michelle Geller (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Ryan Phillippe (Secrets and Lies, The Locksmith), and Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies, Legally Blonde).
The cast of the upcoming series includes Khobe Clarke (Yellow Jackets, Firefly Lane), Brooke Lena Johnson (The Crying Dead, You), Zac Burgess (Bring Me Back, Totally Completely Fine), Sarah Catherine Hook (First Kill, American Crime Story), Sean Patrick Thomas (Save the Last Dance, Gen V), John Harlan Kim (The Librarians, Pandora), Sara Silva (The Boys, American Horror Story), and Savannah Lee Smith (Gossip Girl, Murder at the Murder Mystery Party).
Claire Forlani (Mallrats, Departure), Isabella Tagliati (Happy Birthday, Carnivore), Jon Tenney (Major Crimes, The Closer), Nikki Crawford (9-1-1, Criminal Minds), and Zeke Goodman (I Know What You Did Last Summer, A Shore) will be featured as recurring cast members.
According to Deadline, Head of AVOD Originals, Unscripted, and Targeted Programming, Amazon MGM Studios, Lauren Anderson said, “From the ’90s cult-classic film to the 18th-century novel from which it was adapted, Cruel Intentions has captivated audiences with a story that transcends time.”
Anderson went on, “We are beyond thrilled to share the next chapter of Cruel Intentions’ intriguing interplay of deception, wit, and reckoning with Prime customers and couldn’t be more appreciative of the commitment, dedication, and talent from this entire team – our incredible cast, endlessly clever writers, led by Phoebe and Sara, our fantastic partners at Sony and Original Film, and the executives that led the way at Amazon MGM Studios,” Deadline reported.
Cruel Intentions is produced by Original Film, Sony Pictures Television, and Amazon MGM Studios. It was created, written, and executive produced by Sara Goodman (Preacher, Gossip Girl) and Phoebe Fisher (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Down Low). Pavun Shetty (The Boys, Gen V), Roger Kumble (Beautiful Disaster, After We Collided), and Neal H. Moritz (The Fast and the Furious, Goosebumps) also executive produce.
The series will debut on Prime Video exclusively in over 240 countries globally.
