‘Pretty Little Liars’ Reboot In The Works

Three years following the cancellation of the Freeform drama Pretty Little Liars, Warner Bros. TV has plans in mind for a reboot, according to The Hollywood ReporterRiverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is planning on penning the script.

Pretty Little Liars takes place one year after Alison, played by Sasha Pieterse (The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lava Girl, Geek Charming), goes missing while her friends, Spencer, played by Troian Bellisario (Feed, Clara), Aria, played by Lucy Hale (Katy Keene, Fantasy Island), Hanna, played by Ashley Benson (Spring Breakers, Bring It On), and Emily, played by Shay Mitchell (You, Dollface), have seemingly moved on with their lives, now in high school and drifting apart. However, they’re brought together once again when they each begin to receive anonymous text messages from ‘A’ who threatens to expose their deepest secrets, which they assumed only Alison knew of. The series follows their quest to find out who ‘A’ is.

In its 7 season run, the series had several spin-offs, including Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, Ravenswood, and Pretty Dirty Secrets. However, each series only ran for one season. This new reboot series will feature a new story and new characters. While a network has not been officially stated for this series, it was reported that HBO Max is considering buying the series.

Leslie Morgenstein (Everything, Everything) and Gina Girolamo (You, Chloe King) are set to executive produce alongside Aguirre-Sacasa. However, no other information regarding the potential cast has been released.
