There’s sad news for fans of Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars. Today in a Facebook Live announcement, creator and showrunner, I. Marlene King, and all five pretty little liars (Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell and Sasha Pieterse) broke the news to their fans that season 7 will be the end of the series.
Pretty Little Liars is currently airing its sixth season which will conclude this Tuesday at 9 p.m. on Freeform.
On the bright side, there will be another season of PLL. The sad news is that after the season six finale, there will only be 10 more episodes before it’s all over.
As the showrunner and cast explain in the video, the last season will be the craziest yet. But the best news is all the questions will be answered. At least, they promise that every last question and detail will be resolved in the last season.
Deadline reports that Karey Burke, Freeform’s executive vice president of programming and development said, “Through brilliant storytelling, compelling characters and social media phenomena, Pretty Little Liars paved the way for television shows, writers and cast to interact and engage with audiences on a national and global scale like never before, which led the series to unparalleled success.”
Although PLL is ending, King’s work with Freeform isn’t over yet. Following the two-hour finale of PLL, King’s new drama Famous In Love will premiere. King said, “It’s been an honor to work with such a talented cast and crew over the last seven years. We are a family, and it will be hard to say goodbye to a show that has made such an impact on young audiences and been a mouthpiece for cultural change. I’m excited for fans to finally have all of their questions answered, and I believe they will be satisfied with the wild ride that is our last ten episodes. I am also thrilled to embark on my next endeavor Famous In Love with Bella Thorne and for PLL fans to get wrapped up in Paige’s rise to stardom and the pitfalls of Hollywood.”
King’s next project will star Bella Thorne as Paige, a regular girl who gets thrown into a Hollywood dream after landing the lead role in a film. Suddenly she must learn to balance her new fame with being a college student.
The 7th and final season of PLL will premiere in April of 2017.
