President Obama Set to Appear on ‘Running Wild With Bear Grylls’

President Obama’s three-day tour of Alaska this week marks a number of groundbreaking steps for America; since his arrival, he has already pledged to officially revert the name of the nation’s highest peak, Mount McKinley, to its original title, Denali. He has cemented his support for climate change initiatives by giving speeches on global warming in one of America’s most highly-affected states. The President’s Alaska trip is set to be packed with high-profile appearances and valuable speeches, but somehow, in spite of all the bustle, he found room for what’s really important. According to NBC and The White House, during the trip, President Obama will rendezvous in Alaska with famed television survivalist, Bear Grylls, to film an episode of his series, Running Wild With Bear Grylls.

Barack Obama may seem like an unusual choice of guest star for a down-and-dirty reality TV survival experience, but Grylls is no stranger to showing even his most straitlaced celebrity guests the ropes. In the past, Running Wild has featured such megastars as Kate Winslet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Channing Tatum, and Ben Stiller, all attempting to survive just two days in the wilderness with Bear, with varying degrees of success.

Whether it be desperately scarfing down worms and beetles, hiking up steep, icy bluffs, or swimming through Alaskan waters clad in a suit and tie, there’s no better way for President Obama to truly get acquainted with the landscape of America in its rawest form.

Running Wild is currently wrapping up its second season, with a season finale starring Drew Brees slated for Monday, September 7; Obama’s episode will likely appear sometime next year as part of season 3.

Running Wild With Bear Grylls airs Monday nights on NBC.
