According to ScreenRant, Peter Berg (God Saves Texas), executive producer for Netflix’s Western series American Primeval, has discussed possible second season for the show. In a recent interview with Decider , Berg shared his thoughts on the series’ continuation.
He spoke about how extreme the conditions were during the series’ filming. Although there were some challenges while expressing his affection for the crew and characters of the series he hinted that the series might return if certain criteria are met. These conditions included better weather and the willingness of Julie O’Keefe (Killers of the Flower Moon), the show’s Indigenous Consultant.
Berg said, “You know, after we wrapped, and I looked at all the actors — the ones that were still alive — I felt such affection for them. And I do think there are many ways that we could go. I’ve still got to thaw out from my time spent up on those mountains in the winter, but maybe if they got to lower ground, that wasn’t quite as cold, we could. We could go back. If Indigenous Consultant Julie O’Keefe will come back, I’d be up for discussing it.”
O’Keefe added, “As long as I don’t have to have ice cleats again, I definitely will come back.”
American Primeval follows the chaotic and vast exploration of the American West. The series showcases different sides fighting to take control of the mostly deserted landscape of the Utah territory. There are constant clashes between religion and culture as nowhere is truly safe for anyone. Although the series scored mixed reviews from critics it received a large positive review from audiences.
The series is written and created by Mark L. Smith (The Marsh King’s Daughter) with a cast that includes Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Betty Gilpin (A Dog’s Journey), Shawnee Pourier (Stranger Things), Derek Hinkey (Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1) and many others.
American Primeval is available to stream on Netflix.
