‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Set for Disney+ Reveal Character Posters

Disney+ released a sneak peek of their new show, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, featuring character posters of Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood. The new show is set to be an episodic adaptation of Rick Riordan’s (The 39 Clues: The Maze of Bones) best-selling four novels in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.

Riordan will be an executive producer on the show, revealing during a conversation with Comicbook.com, “I’ve seen cuts of all the episodes at this point, multiple cuts, because they do go through a manuscript…Honestly, I think my first reaction was relief. I was like, ‘Oh thank goodness. I think the fans are going to be pleased.’” The first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series has already been adapted into a film, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010), featuring Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) as Percy. The film grossed almost $227 million worldwide, over two times that of the film’s budget.

The show’s filming wrapped back in February of this year, and according to Comicbook.com, post production will take just as long to complete as production, placing the release on Disney+ sometime in 2024. The wait, filled with eager anticipation for its release, has fans even more excited as the first looks at the character posters of Percy Jackson and the Olympians are revealed. The posters feature Walker Scobell (The Adam Project) as Percy, Leah Jeffries (Something From Tiffany’s) as Annabeth, and Aryan Simhadri (Adventures in Wonder Park) as Grover. The images were shared by both official Percy Jackson accounts and Rick Riordan himself. On the poster of Percy, he is brandishing his sword, Riptide, which is made of celestial bronze, a material ineffective to mortals. The foreground of the poster features two rearing horses, or potentially Percy’s pegasus, Blackjack. In Annabeth’s poster, she is holding her dagger, which was given to her as a gift when she was a child. In the foreground of her poster, there is an owl, the Greek goddess Athena’s symbol; the mother of Annabeth. Grover’s poster features reed pipes in the background, an instrument that is commonly used by Grover, as well as minotaur horns in the foreground.

The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians teaser is narrated by Scobell as if he is talking to the viewer, informing them of the dangers that come with being a half-blood like himself. The first season of the show will likely have the same premise as the book series and movies, but with Riordan and the actors of the show not in attendance at the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con because of the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike, additional details have not yet been announced.
