The horrors that lies below the cursed town of Maine is far from over, as an exiting update on the prequel series, It:Welcome to Derry was revealed by HBO’s CEO, Casey Bloys. According to Screenrant, the series was set in the year 1962, and explores the dark origin of the town, as well a the perspective of a new group of kids as well as the military that investigate the mysterious disappearances that have been happening tying the entity.
The series also gives further lore surrounding to the entity known as Pennywise, played by Bill Skarsgard (Nosferatu, Barbarian), whose true form is known as the Deadlights, which crashed to earth on meteorite million of years of ago and waited for 27 years in slumber for human settlement to arise to wreak havoc.
According to Screenrant, the placement of the series will almost certainly be set further into the past—a concept rooted in the fact that Pennywise does not perceive time linearly, but rather exists in the past, present, and future simultaneously. Because the cosmic entity experiences all points in time at once, its ultimate goal is to rewrite history from the shadows, thereby preventing its own eventual demise and maintaining an eternal, unbreakable chokehold over the town of Derry.
Reported by Screenrant, Bloys spoke up in an interview with Variety that the second season story is still in the works,”Oh, I said this before: They’re working on a take for Season 2, and they’re coming up with a take and scripts. I am very inclined to, obviously — the show did very well. They want to be happy with the direction that they’ve come up with. They’re still working on it. They’ll show it to us, but I’m feeling very good about what I’ve heard so far.”
While awaiting on further information on the release date and story that the new season will entail, the entire first season of It: Welcome to Derry is available to stream on HBO Max.
